E-Builder, June 2011: Kiwanis judges Sohwell Elementary Arts and Essays Contest, which children from the Ocean Pines, MD area attend. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City has judged this contest and the annual Science Fair for many years as part of the Kiwanis International mission "Serving the Children of the World". The children are so creative making it a privilege to see and read their projects.

On Wednesday May 18, 2011 the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City celebrated the 31st anniversary of its charter at the Woodlands in Ocean Pines. Every year the widows of former members of the club are invited to the luncheon to honor them and their spouses for their service and to enjoy the camaraderie.

The original charter was presented and installation of officers made by Capital District Governor Malcom Livick on April 12th 1980 at the Ocean Pines Yacht Club. The Kiwanis Club of Delmar, DE was the sponsoring Kiwanis Club. Based on information, which Kiwanian Dick Jacobs had compiled in 2006, the club had its first meeting on February 20, 1980 at a local restaurant, now long gone, known as the Carriage House with the required 25 members. Formation of the club was spearheaded by the efforts of James Grimm who had been a member of Kiwanis in Baltimore before moving to Ocean Pines in 1979.

The purpose of Kiwanis International is "Serving the Children of the World" to which this club has strived over its 31 year existence. Every year scholarships are awarded to local deserving high school senior students to further their educations. Funds are also distributed to local schools in support of their programs such as Buckingham Elementary School where a Kiwanis club for elementary students known as K-Kids exists and Berlin Intermediate School where a Kiwanis Builders Club also exists Stephen Decatur High School has a Key Club which is Kiwanis at the high school level. The Kiwanis Club judges Science and Art/Essay contests at Showell Elementary and also provides funds to the Ocean Pines Department of Recreation and Parks in support of children's programs. Worcester County GOLD's Priority One which assists children from prenatal to age 5 is another of the club's recipients. There are also community service programs in which the club participated.

There's a long history of service and fundraising events which would fill several columns, but suffice it to say that the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City is proud to have been of service for 31 years and is dedicated to continuing to do so.

Capital Kiwanian Dec/January 2021: For Kiwanis ONE Day, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City took on the project of cleaning up trash in West Ocean City at the Park & Ride lot. In addition, every Wednesday in November members Sue Wineke and Kitty Wrench were in the parking lot of Ocean Pines Community Center collecting coat donations. The response was truly incredible. About 400 + coats were collected.
