(From Oct 2005, E-Builder) On Saturday Sept 24th The Kiwanis Club of Mitchellville teamed up with the Prince Georges County Department of Social Services to participate in its own rendition of the popular series “Extreme Makeover” The Shepherd’s Cove Homeless Shelter was selected as the beneficiaries of this special project The purpose of the Extreme Makeover Project was to beautify the living area of women and children who currently reside in the shelter Leslie Carr, Volunteer Coordinator of the Community Service Division of the Prince Georges County Department of Social Services, spearheaded this Beautification Project along with Linda Howard, President of the Kiwanis Club of Mitchellville The Kiwanians Club of Mitchellville as well as the Largo Key Club and other volunteers got down and dirty with paint and tools in hand The makeover consisted of painting walls green and purple, building wooden stepping stools for the children, rearranging furniture and the layout of the rooms, making beds with new linens and comforters donated by the Kiwanis Club of Mitchellville, and other decorative touches such as hanging pictures This venture is the beginning of a series of projects to makeover shelters in Prince Georges County and the Kiwanis Club of Mitchellville looks forward to participating again.
