1963 The Kiwanis Club of Colonial Heights held its Charter Night on Tuesday evening, October 22, 1963 at the Country Club of Petersburg There were over 200 Kiwanians and guest present with representatives from each club in Division 4 Capital District Governor Chester Troy, Sr was on hand to present the club's charter to our first President, Junny D Smith. The club was organized on July 9th with 25 Charter Members. We were sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Petersburg. At the Charter Night Dinner, each of the other clubs in Division 4 presented our club with gifts of a club banner, gong, gavel and other items to get the club off on the right foot. Our club began with meeting each Wednesday at Arnett's Restaurant at 12:30 pm. The first elected officers were President J D Smith, 1st- Vice President James Honeycutt, 2nd-Vice President Ralph Johnson, Treasurer Aubrey Wheeler and Secretary Landon Meredith. 1964 One of the first projects was to organize a Key Club at the Colonial Heights High School. The Key Club was Chartered on Jan 15, 1964 with Tim Brown serving as President. The club's first fund raiser was the Pancake Meal held at the Community Building on Saturday, February 24, 1964. The cost was $1 for adults and 50 cents for children There was a profit of $328 that first year. 1966 In 1966, we became the co-sponsor of the Brickwood Invitational Golf Tournament which led to the establishment of the Kiwanis of Colonial Heights Cancer Research Fund at the Medical College of Virginia in 1968 That first year, we donated $1,000 to the MCV. 1969 - 1970 1970 - 1971 1971 - 1972 The club took a new direction in its fund raising and it switched from the Brickwood Golf Tournament to sponsoring the 4th of July Celebration for the City of Colonial Heights. This was a big step for the club as we not only sponsored the fireworks, but had a parade from Temple Avenue to the Colonial Heights football field, operated up to ten games booths around the field, sold food of all kinds, auctioned off items that local businesses donated and sponsored "The Battle of the Bands" contest. 1972 - 1973 1973 - 1974 1974 - 1975 1975 - 1976 1976 - 1977 1977 - 1978 1978 - 1979 1979 - 1980 1980 - 1981 1981 - 1982 1982 - 1983 1983 - 1984 1984 - 1985 1985 - 1986 1986 - 1987 1987 - 1988 1988 - 1989 1989 - 1990 1990 - 1991 1991 - 1992 1992 - 1993 1993 - 1994 1994 - 1995 1995 - 1996 1996 - 1997 1997 - 1998 1998 - 1999 1999 - 2000 2000 - 2001 2001 - 2002 Year End: 82 Projects Completed, 302 Service Hours, $20,635 Spent, 16 Interclubs 2002 - 2003 Year End: 78 Projects Completed, 545 Service Hours, $18,924 Spent, 8 Interclubs 2003 - 2004 Year End: 146 Projects Completed, 680 Service Hours, $14,209 Spent, 20 Interclubs 2004 - 2005 (From E-Builder, Nov 2004) On September 15, 2004 the Colonial Heights Kiwanis Club held its 12th annual Shrimp Feast This annual event raises funds to benefit the club’s community projects and to fund the Colonial Heights Kiwanis Foundation The Foundation was formed to honor one of its former members, Judge William N (“Bill”) Humphries Judge Humphries died on July 26, 1993 after fighting a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) All funds from the Foundation are used to provide college scholarships for Colonial Heights High School students The first Shrimp Feast was arranged and pulled off in less than two weeks That event netted nearly $4,000 for the Foundation Since then the event has netted an additional $100,000 to fund these scholarships This year’s event was a tremendous success netting nearly $13,000 The sold-out event was attended by nearly 1,000 people The club members cook, clean, serve and do all that is necessary to make this event successful Year End: 105 Projects Completed, 430 Service Hours, $5,070 Spent, 14 Interclubs 2005 - 2006 Year End: 18 Projects Completed, 190 Service Hours, $901 Spent, 2 Interclubs 2006 - 2007 Year End: 63 Projects Completed, 39 Service Hours, $300 Spent, 10 Interclubs 2007 - 2008 Year End: 41 Projects Completed, 336 Service Hours, $7,505 Spent, 13 Interclubs 2008 - 2009 Year End: 17 Projects Completed, 17 Service Hours, $3,538 Spent, 1- Interclubs $302 District Foundation 2009 - 2010 Year End: 19 Projects Completed, 323 Service Hours, $351 Spent, 9 Interclubs $392 District Foundation 2010 - 2011 E-Builder, June 2011: Colonial Heights Kiwanis held its annual golf tournament on May 12 at Lake Chesdin Landing Golf Course The tournament is set up for 8:00 am and 1 pm start times Priority Toyota donates funds and provides vehicles for par 3 holes and other places on the course Food and drinks are served on the course The club donates all proceeds to the Massey Cancer Center in Richmond New members this month, Brian Nerrie, Elizabeth Fields, Rodney Miles Year End: 15 Projects Completed, 33 Service Hours, $52 Spent, 11 Interclubs $94 District Foundation 2011 - 2012 2012 - 2013 2013 - 2014 2014 - 2015 2015 - 2016 2016 - 2017 2017 - 2018 2018 - 2019 2019 - 2020 2020 - 2021 |
