(E-Builder, Nov 2005) During the month of October, the Suburban Norfolk Club conducted fund raising activities for the Hurricane victims in the southern states. Kim Ripley, our newest member provided the initiative and leadership to get a raffle off the ground. The members sold raffle tickets for a different basket of "goodies" for three consecutive weeks. Each basket had a theme: Week 1 was Health and Fitness; Week 2 was Golf; and Week 3 was a Night Out Articles such as golf green fees, gym membership, spa certificate, movie passes, restaurant certificates, skin care items, etc were a part of the appropriate basket. The drawing for the baskets was held on October 11th at the Grandby North Bar & Gril.l Over $1,000 was raised with this event. These dollars were combined with over $3,000 previously contributed by club members and were forwarded to Kiwanis International Disaster Relief Fund for appropriate distribution. A total of over $4000, all overhead free, went to help children impacted by the hurricanes.
