The club newly organized spent most of the rest of the year in learning Kiwanis Objects and Objectives under the tutelege of visitors from other clubs; bought two Brownie uniforms for a nearby troop; paid for the use of a bed at teh Blue Ridge Sanitarium by a needy girl for one month; partly clothed 25 children at Christmas; and donated one third of a case of cigarettes for the soldiers in the Veterans Hospital in Roanoke.

The club held a farmers night with an appropriate program, entertaining 13 farmers as guests of the club; worked actively in making plans for the Montgomery County Fair; took part in the Boy Scout work in the area; sponsored a swimming class under the Red Cross system; on National Kids Day gave tickets to the County Fair to youngsters; sent a boy to Boys State and a girl to Girls State; worked with the other civic clubs to bring about better understanding of the needs of the community; gave clothes and shoes to needy children so that they could attend school; furnished milk for children’s lunches at meeting of the Orthopedic Clinic; gave a Christmas party to 23 children with gifts for all; and arranged for the club to attend the evening service at a different church each month

(From E-Builder, Sept 2004) Completed construction of a greenhouse at the New River Valley Juvenile Detention Home in Christiansburg Kiwanians paired with juveniles enrolled in the GOALS program to erect the 12 by 18-foot structure, set on a concrete slab poured specifically for the greenhouse The GOALS program seeks to rehabilitate rather than punish Focus is given to career exploration, independent living, and job-keeping skills
