Contribution to Tsusami Relief through KI Foundation $77021

(From E-Builder, Feb 2005) At the January 6, 2005 meeting of the Haysi Kiwanis Club presented checks in the amount of $2,500 each to the Haysi Volunteer Fire Department and the Haysi Volunteer Rescue Squad President Carter Harrison presented a $2,500 check to Terry Bartley, Captain of the Rescue Squad saying, "You have always been there when we have needed you, and hope that this money will help you so that you can continue to do the good work you do for the community" Mr Bartley said in accepting the check, "I knew we were receiving a donation, but I was not aware of the size of the donation" He said that the Rescue Squad will probably use the money to help buy a defibrillator which the Squad is sorely in need of In accepting the $2,500 check for the Haysi Volunteer Fire Department from President-Elect Matthew Fuller, Volunteer Fire Chief Rocky Wood said, "If it wasn't for organizations like the Kiwanis and donations from area businesses and county government, the Fire Department could not continue to operate" Mr Wood said that the money would probably go toward meeting the match amount to a Federal Homeland Security grant that the department recently received, and possibly to buy a washer and dryer to clean the departments turnout gear President-Elect Fuller said in presenting the check, "This is just a small token to say Thank You for all that you do to help our club and the community" Both the Rescue Squad and the Volunteer Fire Department have been a tremendous help to the Haysi Kiwanis club, and to the entire county for their volunteer efforts they put forth every year to help make the Dickenson County Fair run much smoother The gifts to each organization totaling $5,000 is the least that the Haysi Kiwanis Club can do to help two of the most important members of the small Haysi community stay afloat .
