2017 - 2018 ST PAUL, Va – Members of the St Paul-Castlewood community celebrated the opening and charter of a new Kiwanis club Monday night, April 9, at Sugar Hill Brewing Company Approximately 90 people were in attendance at the event. The Kiwanis Club of St Paul-Castlewood was chartered in November 2017 and meets the fourth Thursday of each month at the St Paul Town Hall The club’s membership currently stands at 25 charter members Kiwanis Clubs are formed to help meet the needs of children in local communities Kiwanis International has more than 600,000 members around the world dedicated to volunteer service that helps kids. During the celebration, charter members and officers of this new club received pins and certificates They were joined by members from clubs in Divisions 15, 16 and 17 of the Kiwanis Capital District, including Kiwanis Clubs of Clinch River (Richlands), Council, Hurley, Norton, Wise, Coeburn, Grundy, Haysi, Clintwood and McClure River The Coeburn, Norton, and Wise clubs sponsored the opening of the St Paul-Castlewood club. Division 17 Lieutenant Governor Jeff Dotson served as the evening’s emcee Scott and Brenda White were keynote speakers for the event, which included dinner Capital District Past Governor David Heppner and Governor Jon Rife spoke at the gathering and presented the charter and gifts to the new club. Club officers are President Greg Bailey, President-Elect Sarah Sawyers, Treasurer Daniel Stanley and Secretary Neva Bryan Other members of the club are Debbie Baca, Jennifer Bailey, James Boggs, Michael Bradley, Karen Dickenson, Jeff Dotson, Kyle Fletcher, Bob Harrison, Mark Harrison, Suzy Harrison, Ken Holbrook, Shelly Mullins, Royce Owens, Bobby Ramey, Jon Rife, Monty Salyer, Shelia Salyer, Kathy Stewart, Dallas Vaught, Lou Ann Wallace and Raymond (Tony) Watkins.
