1936 The club had programs on Boy Scout Work, Boys' Club Work, The Soldiers' Bonus, The Townsend Act, and The Community Fund Held a Ladies Night. Visited Norfolk twice, one of these visits carrying the Golden Rule to Norfolk. It had two Programs on Kiwanis Education, entertained the LG and celebrated US - Canada Week. 1937 Program on Underprivileged Child Work Had a program on the Boy Scouts, and gave financial assistance to baseball team of the Boys Club and to the high school annual. Host to Hampton and visited Norfolk. Entertained the District Governor and the LTG, was represented at the District Convention and had one 100% meeting. 1938 Sponsored a show to raise funds each member attended. The club was entertained by one of its members on two occasions, and the inone v saved bv this means was donated to tile Norfolk Joy Fund Contributed $10 to the Community Fund, $50 to the Camp Milk Fund and sent 20 boys and girls to 6-week Camp and at Christmas each member filled a Kiddy bag and delivered it. Donated a typewriter to one of the schools for the use of pupils. The club worked on the project of having the Berkeley Bridge made a toll-free bridge. Entertained the LG and was represented at the MidWinter Conference and District Convention. 1939 Contributed $50 to Camp Kiwanis, the camp for underprivileged children which is run annually by the Norfolk club, and furnished through the generosity of 2 members milk and ice to the camp during its 2 month session It omitted 2 dinner meetings and gave the price of the dinners to the Norfolk Joy Fund Contributed $25 to the local Scout troop. Sent a delegation to an interclub at Hampton and was host to the Hopewell club on which occasion Hopewell put on the program. The club was visited by the LG and the International Secretary Some programs on Kiwanis Education, and the club was represented at the District Convention. 1940 Selected 7 boys and 7 girls, gave them medical examinations, and sent them to camp for a two week period each at a cost of $150. On Boys' Night each member invited a boy as guest for dinner Twenty five boys were present and each was given a prize Contributed $33 to the Norfolk joy Fund, and distributed 30 Kiddie Bags for Christmas. Sponsored a Boy Scout troop for a number of years, and this year contributed $25. A delegation from Hopewell brought the plaque, which the club later delivered to Newport News For sociability and recreation the club held a Ladies' Night, an old time spelling bee, and a dance Lieutenant Governor visited the club, which was represented at the Mid Winter Conference, the District Convention, and the Training School for Club Officers 1941 A Boy Scout program was held at which Troop 54 was entertained for dinner On the occasion of the annual presentation of their charter, and a contribution of $2500 was made to the Troop Sent a large delegation to the inter club meeting of the clubs in the immediate neighborhood Was visited by the District Governor and LG, and was represented at the District Convention 1942 Contributed $34 to the Norfolk joy Fund It had two programs devoted to Scouting, one of which was put on by the Scout Troop Gave $25 to the Troop Two programs on Vocational Guidance were given Realizing the need for a casualty and first aid station on the Southside, raised $2,000, bought an ambulance, equipped a casualty station, complete with operating equipment, first aid and beds for 50 patients, also equipped two first aid stations in adjoining communities, and in addition to the above, purchased a piece of equipment for one of the local hospitals at a cost of $500 to be used in the clinic for the underprivileged Host to a delegation from Hampton on the occasion of the visit of the LG The president and his wife represented the club at the Norfolk Ladies' Night Was represented at the Mid Winter Conference, the District Convention, and the Training School for Club Officers 1943 Contributed $15 to the South Norfolk Joy Fund, and the same amount to the Norfolk Joy Fund Continued to sponsor the Boy Scout Troop, contributing $23 to its support Two programs were given by the Scout leader and the boys at the times the troop was entertained, and at one of those meetings four Eagle Scouts were in attendance The club contributed $20 towards the Berkley PTA Mayground Two pure bred Hampshire hogs were presented to two boys for breeding purposes and they raised a litter of 16 pigs The casualty station equipped by the club (luring the last year was continued in operation, expenses being borne by the club Contributed $30 to the United War Fund and $25 to the Red Cross Members were encouraged to have Victory Gardens Four members made their attendance at the meetings of other clubs and a number of visiting Kiwanians made their attendance at our regular meeting Was visited by the LG, and was represented at the Mid Winter Conference, the District Convention, and the Training School for Club Officers 1944 1945 1946 1947 1948 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1954 1955 1956 1957 1958 1959 1960 1961 1962 1963 |
